Description
1. Purpose
The SOLLICH 2151 HIGH-IMPEDANCE SEPARATOR is a precise electronic system with a very high input impedance for direct current.
The device is used in measurement systems with high output resistance as a separator between the output and the voltmeter measuring the voltage on it.
The device is designed for field work and in laboratory conditions as a separator when measuring the output voltage on direct current sources with microampere efficiency. In particular, the device has been adapted to work with the SOLLICH 20903 PCG galvanostat, used to test the quality of insulating coatings on underground installations such as fuel and gas tanks or underground gas pipelines.
For a given polarization current value, e.g. 2 µA, and an output voltage of 10 V at the measuring terminals, a standard voltmeter with an input resistance of 10 MOhm connected directly to the output terminals draws an input current equal to:
10 V / 10 Mohm = 1 µA..
This means that half of the current value = 2 µA flows between the grounding electrode and the pipeline, and the other half through the voltmeter input circuits.
In such situations, the use of the SOLLICH 2151 HIS High-Impedance Separator with an input impedance greater than 10 GOhm eliminates the effect of shunting the measuring circuit with the input resistance of the measuring voltmeter.
2. Construction
The SOLLICH 2151 HIS device is assembled in a handheld housing, easy to carry, in which an internal power source (Li-Ion battery) is built-in. The equipment also includes a Li-Ion 8.4V battery charger and two 1 m long measuring cables.
The whole is completed in a transport case.
The method of mounting the internal elements of the device guarantees the required resistance to shocks, which allows it to be used freely in field measurement conditions.
3. Equipment
The SOLLICH 2151 HIS High-Impedance Separator is equipped as standard with:
- 1 m long measuring cables.
- Charger for batteries installed in the device.
- The device together with the cables and charger are completed in a transport case.
